KRAFT PAPER

Stocklot Kraft Paper Suppliers

One of the most common inquiries the Raw Materials sales team receives is, "What is stocklot kraft paper, and what are the various products used for?"

Production

The term stocklot kraft paper encompasses a range of products produced through the chemical conversion of wood into wood pulp, separating the lignin and cellulose fibers.

The reduced lignin content and high sulfur ratio in the paper production process ensure the paper's high strength, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of stocklot packaging requirements.

The Process

While all stocklot kraft paper is produced using the Kraft process, slight variations can significantly impact the final product. For instance, the use of virgin or recycled pulp: stocklot kraft paper made from virgin pulp exhibits very high strength and tear resistance, best suited for heavy-duty applications. Stocklot kraft paper made from recycled materials offers lower strength and tear resistance but remains suitable for heavy-duty packaging applications and is more environmentally friendly.

All stocklot kraft papers can be in their natural shade or bleached; natural shade paper is more robust, as bleaching decreases the paper's strength. However, bleached paper offers improved printability due to its smooth surface. Stocklot kraft paper can also be classified as MG (machine glazed) or MF (machine finished), referring to the finish of the paper during production.

Applications of Stocklot Kraft Paper

A wide variety of stocklot kraft paper products are available, suitable for different purposes:

  • Bags - shopping bags are produced using Bag Kraft, while heavy-duty industrial bags are made with Sack Kraft.
  • Food wrapping/packaging - MG and MF Bleached Kraft are used in food wrapping and packaging, such as sandwich wrapping.
  • Boxes/Corrugation - boxes, especially in the food industry where they are exposed to moisture, are made using high grammage, high-strength kraft known as Kraft Liner Board (KLB).

Stocklot kraft paper is not limited to the above applications. With increasing environmental awareness, many companies are turning to stocklot kraft paper suppliers as an economically and environmentally friendly solution.

Unlike other paper production methods, the Kraft process can utilize all types of wood, and nearly all chemicals used in the production process are sourced from recycled and reusable sources. By-products of production are recycled wherever possible or repurposed for other uses.
